Pasture-Raised Beef

Starting from the ground up.

Since 2010, Whittenberg Farms has been officially in the beef business, selling beef by the cut at the Red Bluff Farmers' Markets.  In the 2011 market season, we plan to also have packages available by pre-order.

The beef all comes from animals raised on pasture until the day they are harvested; this means no feedlot, no anti-biotics, and no overloading of corn (which is a bad thing for a grazing animal).  We do feed our grazing animals a bit of grain each day, largely as a management practice, so that the animals come running when we call, rather than having to be herded to bring them in.

Thus far, we have purchased weaned calves that we raise to 18-24 months of age, but we are looking at eventually having our own herd of Dexter cattle, so as to be able to produce our own calves.
